Danes Hill School - Athlete Development
Play to Prepare (lower School)
Our play to prepare programme for children in key stage 1, is the start of our long term athletic development (LTAD) pathway, blending aspects of physical literacy and strength & conditioning in a child centred environment. In order to prepare children for the demands of sport we focus on developing specific physical (strength, speed, agility) and motor skill (throwing, catching, dribbling) qualities, along with social and team building skills, through fun games and play.
Train to Progress (Middle & upper school)
Sport is a fantastic vehicle, which leads to developing specific physical and motor skill qualities, along with social benefits, team building and possibly even leadership. However, we also need to appreciate that all sports have a demand, and to play sport at any level we need to prepare, especially young athletes. Therefore, the main aims of the train to progress programme are to develop and to monitor the athlete’s physical qualities, such as strength, power and speed, and motor skills, in conjunction with education aligned to promote optimal nutrition, rest, recovery and eventually reflective practice. Our vision is simple, to support each athlete on their individual journey, where long-term, each athlete will be confident, robust, self-determined, skilful and sport ready. The programme will include aspects of weight training, parkour/gymnastics, movement skills and fun games galore!
