Our clinic has been based in Farnham since 2018 though Ian Wrightson, our head therapist and owner was based out of the Surrey Sports Park for 8 years prior to opening up seventy9 Sports Therapy.

Ian graduated from London Metropolitan University in 2007 with a BSc (Hons) degree in Sports Therapy. He has been a fully accredited member of the Society of Sports Therapists ever since.  Ian has previously worked in the Physiotherapy department at London Scottish Rugby Club, providing assessment and treatment to professional and amateur players with a wide range of injuries, as well as producing and co-ordinating structured rehabilitation programmes in his role as the club’s rehabilitation supervisor. He has also provided Sports Therapy and sports massage to riders of the Felt-Colbornes-Hargroves RT, who were one of the top ranked road cycling teams in the country at the time. At the Surrey Sports Park, Ian worked with patients from all walks of life, including many high performance, elite, and professional athletes, including both summer and winter Olympians.

He has a special interest in lower limb movement mechanics in relation to walking and running gait, as well as cycling biomechanics. With a background in collision sports, the shoulder is also a source of interest for Ian. He also sees his role as that of an educator, helping patients/athletes/coaches/managers/parents understand the exact details of the injury or dysfunction.

Ian is a keen sportsman, having played county and divisional rugby union, as well as competing in cricket, tennis, hockey and athletics. He has since turned his passion for competition to road cycling. He teams his passion for sport and exercise with a constant desire to learn and is constantly striving to hone his skills as a skilled and empathetic practitioner. This is highlighted by his CPD learning which covers topics across the fields of Sports Therapy, Physiotherapy, Strength and Conditioning, Physiology, Rehabilitation, Sports Massage, Sports Coaching and Orthopaedic Medicine.

Ian works with all musculoskeletal injuries as well as providing sports massage services.

Joining Ian at seventy9 Sports Therapy is Claire Benton. Claire has recently graduated from the University of Worcester with a BSc (Hons) in Sports Therapy. During her final placement year, she worked alongside a number of different sports teams, from student to elite high performance athletes. She is currently working as the Sports Therapist at Camberley Town Football Club, providing treatment and rehab to their senior first team players as well as the club’s youth players.

She has a special interest in working with sports teams, particularly in football, providing immediate pitch side treatment as well as the off-field treatment, rehab and recovery strategies that help patients, regardless of sport and exercise status.

Sustaining an injury can be one of the toughest experiences that an athlete will have. Being involved in a range of different sports throughout the years, Claire knows how challenging injury recovery can be. Because of this, her aim is to get patients back to their pre-injury fitness levels as soon as possible by providing the best treatment and support for them that she can.

Her love for sport, combined with her desire to help people continue doing what they love, is what drove her towards this career. It gives her the opportunity to learn and further develop her skills to become the best therapist possible for our patients at seventy9 Sports Therapy.

Claire provides sports massage services at seventy9 Sports Therapy.
